كَانُواْ لَا يَتَنَاهَوۡنَ عَن مُّنكَرࣲ فَعَلُوهُۚ لَبِئۡسَ مَا كَانُواْ يَفۡعَلُونَ

Nor did they (usually) forbid one another the iniquities which they committed: evil indeed were the deeds which they did

هَلۡ ثُوِّبَ ٱلۡكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُواْ يَفۡعَلُونَ

Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَمۡ يَكُونُواْ مُعۡجِزِينَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِنۡ أَوۡلِيَآءَۘ يُضَٰعَفُ لَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُۚ مَا كَانُواْ يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَمَا كَانُواْ يُبۡصِرُونَ

They will in no wise frustrate (His design) on earth, nor have they protectors besides Allah! Their penalty will be doubled! They lost the power to hear, and they did not see

78:27 النَّبَاِ An-Naba
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ لَا يَرۡجُونَ حِسَابࣰ ا

For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds)

15:11 الْحِجْرِ Al-Hijr
وَمَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ

But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him

لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ ٱلسَّحَرَةَ إِن كَانُواْ هُمُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبِينَ

That we may follow the sorcerers (in religion) if they win

قَالَ وَمَا عِلۡمِي بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ

He said: "And what do I know as to what they do

ثُمَّ جَآءَهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يُوعَدُونَ

Yet there comes to them at length the (Punishment) which they were promised

كَذَٰلِكَ يُؤۡفَكُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَانُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ يَجۡحَدُونَ

Thus are deluded those who are wont to reject the Signs of Allah

كَانُواْ قَلِيلࣰ ا مِّنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ مَا يَهۡجَعُونَ

They were in the habit of sleeping but little by night

إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَبۡلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتۡرَفِينَ

For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury)

فَوَقَعَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَبَطَلَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ

Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect

فَقَرَأَهُۥ عَلَيۡهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ مُؤۡمِنِينَ

And had he recited it to them, they would not have believed in it

They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt

And of no avail to them was all that they did (with such art and care)

51:45 الذَّارِياتِ Adh-Dhaariyat
فَمَا ٱسۡتَطَٰعُواْ مِن قِيَامࣲ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُنتَصِرِينَ

Then they could not even stand (on their feet), nor could they help themselves

51:46 الذَّارِياتِ Adh-Dhaariyat
وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمࣰ ا فَٰسِقِينَ

So were the People of Noah before them for they wickedly transgressed

52:34 الطُّوْرِ At-Tur
فَلۡيَأۡتُواْ بِحَدِيثࣲ مِّثۡلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُواْ صَٰدِقِينَ

Let them then produce a recital like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth

43:76 الزُّخْرُفِ Az-Zukhruf
وَمَا ظَلَمۡنَٰهُمۡ وَلَٰكِن كَانُواْ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

Nowise shall We be unjust to them: but it is they who have been unjust themselves

83:14 المُطَفِّفِيْنَ Al-Mutaffifin
كَلَّاۖ بَلۡۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ

By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do

6:129 الْاَنْعَامِ Al-An'aam
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُوَلِّي بَعۡضَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ بَعۡضَۢا بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ

Thus do we make the wrong-doers turn to each other, because of what they earn

7:177 الْاَعْرَافِ Al-A'raaf
سَآءَ مَثَلًا ٱلۡقَوۡمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَأَنفُسَهُمۡ كَانُواْ يَظۡلِمُونَ

Evil as an example are people who reject Our signs and wrong their own souls

15:2 الْحِجْرِ Al-Hijr
رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَوۡ كَانُواْ مُسۡلِمِينَ

Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam

30:49 الرُّوْمِ Ar-Room
وَإِن كَانُواْ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن يُنَزَّلَ عَلَيۡهِم مِّن قَبۡلِهِۦ لَمُبۡلِسِينَ

Even though, before they received (the rain) - just before this - they were dumb with despair

36:30 يٰسٓ Yaseen
يَٰحَسۡرَةً عَلَى ٱلۡعِبَادِۚ مَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ

Ah! Alas for (My) Servants! There comes not a messenger to them but they mock him

44:29 الدُّخَانِ Ad-Dukhaan
فَمَا بَكَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُنظَرِينَ

And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again)

58:15 الْمُجَادَلَةِ Al-Mujaadila
أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمۡ عَذَابࣰ ا شَدِيدًاۖ إِنَّهُمۡ سَآءَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ

Allah has prepared for them a severe Penalty: evil indeed are their deeds

68:41 الْقَلَمِ Al-Qalam
أَمۡ لَهُمۡ شُرَكَآءُ فَلۡيَأۡتُواْ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمۡ إِن كَانُواْ صَٰدِقِينَ

Or have they some "Partners" (in Allahhead)? Then let them produce their "partners", if they are truthful

6:49 الْاَنْعَامِ Al-An'aam
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا يَمَسُّهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَفۡسُقُونَ

But those who reject our signs,- them shall punishment touch, for that they ceased not from transgressing

21:8 الْاَنْۣبِيَآءِ Al-Anbiyaa
وَمَا جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ جَسَدࣰ ا لَّا يَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَمَا كَانُواْ خَٰلِدِينَ

Nor did We give them bodies that ate no food, nor were they exempt from death

46:14 الْاَحْقَافِ Al-Ahqaf
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ

Such shall be Companions of the Gardens, dwelling therein (for aye): a recompense for their (good) deeds

9:82 التَّوْبَةِ At-Tawba
فَلۡيَضۡحَكُواْ قَلِيلࣰ ا وَلۡيَبۡكُواْ كَثِيرࣰ ا جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ

Let them laugh a little: much will they weep: a recompense for the (evil) that they do

36:46 يٰسٓ Yaseen
وَمَا تَأۡتِيهِم مِّنۡ ءَايَةࣲ مِّنۡ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَّا كَانُواْ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِينَ

Not a Sign comes to them from among the Signs of their Lord, but they turn away therefrom

Open ayah In surah context Juz 23
53:52 النَّجْمِ An-Najm
وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ

And before them, the people of Noah, for that they were (all) most unjust and most insolent transgressors

Open ayah In surah context Juz 27
68:33 الْقَلَمِ Al-Qalam
كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡعَذَابُۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ أَكۡبَرُۚ لَوۡ كَانُواْ يَعۡلَمُونَ

Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Punishment in the Hereafter,- if only they knew

40:82 الْمُؤْمِنِ Ghafir
أَفَلَمۡ يَسِيرُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَيَنظُرُواْ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَانُوٓاْ أَكۡثَرَ مِنۡهُمۡ وَأَشَدَّ قُوَّةࣰ وَءَاثَارࣰ ا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَمَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ

Do they not travel through the earth and see what was the End of those before them? They were more numerous than these and superior in strength and in the traces (they have left) in the land: Yet all that they accomplished was of no profit to them

Open ayah In surah context Juz 24
11:21 هُوْدٍ Hud
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَفۡتَرُونَ

They are the ones who have lost their own souls: and the (fancies) they invented have left them in the lurch

21:63 الْاَنْۣبِيَآءِ Al-Anbiyaa
قَالَ بَلۡ فَعَلَهُۥ كَبِيرُهُمۡ هَٰذَا فَسۡـَٔلُوهُمۡ إِن كَانُواْ يَنطِقُونَ

He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently

Open ayah In surah context Juz 17
26:6 الشُّعَرَآءِ Ash-Shu'araa
فَقَدۡ كَذَّبُواْ فَسَيَأۡتِيهِمۡ أَنۢبَٰٓؤُاْ مَا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ

They have indeed rejected (the Message): so they will know soon (enough) the truth of what they mocked at

37:22 الصَّافَّاتِ As-Saaffaat
۞ٱحۡشُرُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ وَأَزۡوَٰجَهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡبُدُونَ

Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped

51:16 الذَّارِياتِ Adh-Dhaariyat
ءَاخِذِينَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَبۡلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحۡسِنِينَ

Taking joy in the things which their Lord gives them, because, before then, they lived a good life

17:27 الإِسۡرَاءِ Al-Israa
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوٓاْ إِخۡوَٰنَ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِۖ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ لِرَبِّهِۦ كَفُورࣰ ا

Verily spendthrifts are brothers of the Evil Ones; and the Evil One is to his Lord (himself) ungrateful
