12:78 Yusuf (Joseph)

قالوا مستعطفين ليوفوا بعهد أبيهم: يا أيها العزيز إن له والدًا كبيرًا في السن يحبه ولا يطيق بُعده، فخُذْ أحدنا بدلا من "بنيامين"، إنا نراك من المحسنين في معاملتك لنا ولغيرنا.

فـ { قَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الْعَزِيزُ إِنَّ لَهُ أَبًا شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا } أي: وإنه لا يصبر عنه، وسيشق عليه فراقه، { فَخُذْ أَحَدَنَا مَكَانَهُ إِنَّا نَرَاكَ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ } فأحسن إلينا وإلى أبينا بذلك.

لما تعين أخذ بنيامين وتقرر تركه عند يوسف بمقتضى اعترافهم شرعوا يترققون له ويعطفونه عليهم " فقالوا يا أيها العزيز إن له أبا شيخا كبيرا " يعنون وهو يحبه حبا شديدا ويتسلى به عن ولده الذي فقده " فخذ أحدنا مكانه " أي بدله يكون عندك عوضا عنه " إنا نراك من المحسنين " أي العادلين المنصفين القابلين للخير.

They said ‘O Court officer lo! he has a father an aged man who loves him more than we do and who finds solace in him from the anguish he feels for his dead son; and it will grieve him to part with him so take one of us enslave him in his place instead of him indeed we see that you are among the virtuous’ in terms of your actions.

In verse 78, it was said: قَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الْعَزِيزُ إِنَّ لَهُ أَبًا شَيْخًا كَبِيرً‌ا فَخُذْ أَحَدَنَا مَكَانَهُ ۖ إِنَّا نَرَ‌اكَ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِين . It means when the brothers of Sayyidna Yusuf (علیہ السلام) realized that nothing seems to be working here and they have no option left but to leave Benyamin behind, they started flattering the ` Aziz of Misr. They told him that Benyamin's father was very old and weak (his separation will be unbearable for him). Therefore, they requested him that he should detain anyone from among them, in lieu of him. They also told him that they were making that request to him in the hope that he, as they feel, appears to be a very generous person - or, he has been gener-ous to them earlier too.
