22:14 Al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage)

إن الله يدخل الذين آمنوا بالله ورسوله، وثبتوا على ذلك، وعملوا الصالحات، جنات تجري من تحت أشجارها الأنهار، إن الله يفعل ما يريد من ثواب أهل طاعته تفضلا وعقاب أهل معصيته عدلا.

لما ذكر تعالى المجادل بالباطل، وأنه على قسمين، مقلد، وداع، ذكر أن المتسمي بالإيمان أيضا على قسمين، قسم لم يدخل الإيمان قلبه كما تقدم، والقسم الثاني: المؤمن حقيقة، صدق ما معه من الإيمان بالأعمال الصالحة، فأخبر تعالى أنه يدخلهم جنات تجري من تحتها الأنهار، وسميت الجنة جنة، لاشتمالها على المنازل والقصور والأشجار والنوابت التي تجن من فيها، ويستتر بها من كثرتها، { إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يُرِيدُ } فما أراده تعالى فعله من غير ممانع ولا معارض، ومن ذلك، إيصال أهل الجنة إليها، جعلنا الله منهم بمنه وكرمه.

لما ذكر أهل الضلالة الأشقياء عطف بذكر الأبرار السعداء من الذين آمنوا بقلوبهم وصدقوا إيمانهم بأفعالهم فعملوا الصالحات من جميع أنواع القربات وتركوا المنكرات فأورثهم ذلك سكنى الدرجات العاليات في روضات الجنات ولما ذكر تعالى أنه أضل أولئك وهدى هؤلاء قال " إن الله يفعل ما يريد ".

Truly God shall admit those who believe and perform righteous deeds in the way of obligatory and supererogatory acts of worship into gardens underneath which rivers flow. Indeed God does whatever He desires in the way of showing beneficence to those who obey Him and degrading those who disobey Him.

Commentary

(And among men there is one who worships Allah (standing) on the verge - 22:11.) Bukhari and Ibn Abi Haim have related from Sayyidna Ibn ` Abbas ؓ that when the Holy Prophet ﷺ migrated to Madinah, people flocked to him and accepted the new religion. But there were some among them whose conversion to Islam was far from being genuine, and whose sole motive for their action was to seek self-advancement, and they lacked conviction. If, after becoming Muslims, favorable circumstances resulted in an increase in their prosperity and their children, they thought Islam was a very good religion, but they were equally ready to condemn it if things went against their personal interests. This verse was revealed to describe such people who were mere opportunists and were easily swayed either way depending on where their selfish interests lay.
