7:93 Al-A'raaf (The Heights)

فأعرض شعيب عنهم حينما أيقن بحلول العذاب بهم، وقال: يا قوم لقد أبلغتكم رسالات ربي، ونصحت لكم بالدخول في دين الله والإقلاع عما أنتم عليه، فلم تسمعوا ولم تطيعوا، فكيف أحزن على قوم جحدوا وحدانية الله وكذبوا رسله؟

فحين هلكوا تولى عنهم نبيهم شعيب عليه الصلاة والسلام { وَقَالَ ْ} معاتبا وموبخا ومخاطبا بعد موتهم: { يَا قَوْمِ لَقَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّي ْ} أي: أوصلتها إليكم، وبينتها حتى بلغت منكم أقصى ما يمكن أن تصل إليه، وخالطت أفئدتكم { وَنَصَحْتُ لَكُمْ ْ} فلم تقبلوا نصحي، ولا انقدتم لإرشادي، بل فسقتم وطغيتم. { فَكَيْفَ آسَى عَلَى قَوْمٍ كَافِرِينَ ْ} أي: فكيف أحزن على قوم لا خير فيهم، أتاهم الخير فردوه ولم يقبلوه ولا يليق بهم إلا الشر، فهؤلاء غير حقيقين أن يحزن عليهم، بل يفرح بإهلاكهم ومحقهم. فعياذا بك اللهم من الخزي والفضيحة، وأي: شقاء وعقوبة أبلغ من أن يصلوا إلى حالة يتبرأ منهم أنصح الخلق لهم؟\".

أي فتولى عنهم شعيب عليه السلام بعد ما أصابهم ما أصابهم من العذاب والنقمة والنكا ل وقال مقرعا لهم وموبخا "يا قوم لقد أبلغتكم رسالات ربي ونصحت لكم" أي قد أديت إليكم ما أرسلت به فلا آسف عليكم وقد كفرتم بما جئتم به فلهذا قال "فكيف آسى على قوم كافرين".

So he turned back on them and said ‘O my people I have conveyed to you the Messages of my Lord and advised you sincerely but you believe not so why should I grieve for a disbelieving people?’ the interrogative is meant rhetorically as a negation.

In the sixth (93) verse, it was said: فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنْهُمْ (So, he turned away from them). It means that, with punishment for his people in sight, Sayyidna Shu'aib (علیہ السلام) and his believing companions moved away from there. The majority of commentators says that these blessed souls left this place for Makkah al-Mu` azzamah where they stayed till the end.

It was his total disappointment with his people neck-deep in disobedience and contumacy which prompted him to pray that they be chastened. But, when the actual punishment came as a result of it, his heart pinched because of his prophetic concern and affection for them. Then, it was for the peace of his own heart that he said addressing his people: ` 0 my people, I have surely delivered to you the messages of my Lord, and wished you betterment. How, then, should I grieve over a disbelieving people?'
