Travel relaxes some prayer rules. The two relevant concessions are qasr (shortening 4-rakah prayers to 2) and jam (combining Dhuhr with Asr and Maghrib with Isha at one of their times).

When does qasr apply?

Most jurists agree qasr applies when you travel a distance of roughly 80–88 km (about 48 miles) from your home. Qasr is permitted from the moment you leave the city limits and continues until you return or until you intend to stay 4 days or more in one place (varies by school).

Combining (jam)

Combining is allowed during travel. You may pray Dhuhr early then Asr at the start of Asr time (jam taqdim), or pray Dhuhr at the end of its time then Asr at the start of its time (jam taʼkhir). Same pattern for Maghrib + Isha.

Finding Qibla in a new city

Use the QiblaWeb Qibla page from any browser. Tap "Use my location"; the bearing computes locally. If you are in a hotel, sight a fixed object that lies in the direction of the bearing and use that as a reference.
