9:88 At-Tawba (The Repentance)

يقول تعالى‏:‏ إذا تخلف هؤلاء المنافقون عن الجهاد، فاللّه سيغني عنهم، وللّه عباد وخواص من خلقه اختصهم بفضله يقومون بهذا الأمر، وهم ‏{‏الرَّسُولُ‏}‏ محمد ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ ‏{‏وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَعَهُ جَاهَدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ‏}‏ غير متثاقلين ولا كسلين، بل هم فرحون مستبشرون، ‏{‏وَأُولَئِكَ لَهُمُ الْخَيْرَاتُ‏}‏ الكثيرة في الدنيا والآخرة، ‏{‏وَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ‏}‏ الذين ظفروا بأعلى المطالب وأكمل الرغائب‏.‏

لما ذكر تعالى ذنب المنافقين وبين ثناءه على المؤمنين وما لهم في آخرتهم فقال " لكن الرسول والذين آمنوا معه جاهدوا " إلى آخر الآيتين من بيان حالهم ومآلهم وقال " وأولئك لهم الخيرات " أي في الدار الآخرة في جنات الفردوس والدرجات العلى.

After Allah mentioned the sins of the hypocrites, He praised the faithful believers and described their reward in the Hereafter,

لَـكِنِ الرَّسُولُ وَالَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَعَهُ جَـهَدُواْ

(But the Messenger and those who believed with him strove hard and fought) until the end of these two Ayat 9:88-89. This describes the qualities, as well as, the reward of faithful believers. Allah said,

وَأُوْلَـئِكَ لَهُمُ الْخَيْرَاتُ

(Such are they for whom are the good things), in the Hereafter, in the gardens of Al-Firdaws and the high grades.

But the Messenger and those who believe with him strive with their wealth and their lives for them are the good things in this life and in the Hereafter; those they are the successful the triumphant.

The expression: اُولُوا الطَّولِ (ulu 'at-caul: translated as ` the capable ones' ) (86) is not for particularization. Instead, it serves a purpose. It tells that there were others too, the ones not so capable. And the incapable ones had, at least, some obvious excuse to stay behind.
